People nowadays have difficulty balancing their time at home and at work. Whether at home, in the office, or in school, writing assignments can take an enormous amount of valuable time. With the kind of lifestyle that many people have, it is very evident that many students do not take the time sit down and really put some thought in to the assignment before writing. Students who try and balance a full social life and school responsibilities often find it really difficult to make the two successfully work.
September 15, 2004 Hi everyone, following is our newly revised, suggested introduction letter....
Youth bridge systemic and cultural divides with their vision, fresh perspective and new ideas.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama invites youth to move into their future with a kind heart, through education that involves both the mind and emotions and development of an internal zone of peace.
Journey to Peace is a documentary featuring one youthful leader, (a monk), and five ordinary citizens (a secretary, a waitress, an art teacher, a homemaker and an attorney) whose acts of peace changed the world. Each one was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and all of them are now international human rights activists. Mairead Corrigan Maguire, Betty Williams, Adolfo Perez Esquivel, Aung San Suu Kyi, Shirin Ebadi and His Holiness the Dalai Lama invite us to cultivate the skill of peacemaking in our lives and to experience the freedom and power of this new way of thinking.
Both youth and the Nobel Peace Laureates understand that we are equipped already for the challenges of this world. Where youth offer passion, drive and optimism, the Nobels model the values and attitudes that help us persevere through complexity. This combination of wisdom and passion helps us all to expand our potential.
The Journey to Peace team is interested in collaborating with youth on a project that offers them: Opportunities to coalesce leadership skills around a peace initiative Media visibility showcasing youth efforts of your organization Credits in a major, international documentary film The documentary, Journey to Peace, as a tool for interacting in their communities around the issue of turning away from violence and developing skills of peace
Adolfo Perez Esquivel declares, “If utopia doesn’t exist, then we must create it.” Shirin Ebadi, mother of two young women and women and children’s rights advocate in Iran simply states, “It does not matter that there is violence, it matters what our response is to it.”
I welcome a conversation regarding your thoughts or questions. I thank you for your time, and wish you the best in your endeavors.
Kind Regards Valerie Mrak, Director of Journey to Peace
Dear Mr. Vedder,
His Holiness the Dalai Lama challenges us by suggesting that the world could change if each one of us created “a zone of peace in our hearts.” Adolfo Perez Esquivel declares, “If utopia doesn’t exist, then we must create it.” Shirin Ebadi, mother of two young women and women and children’s rights advocate in Iran simply states, “It does not matter that there is violence, it matters what our response is to it.”
We believe that you will be interested in supporting the making of Journey to Peace, a documentary that features these Nobel Laureates, along with three others: Mairead Corrigan Maguire, Betty Williams, and Aung San Suu Kui. The film, which producer, Martha Howard, and I are developing, explores the power of six individuals – an attorney, artist, monk, waitress, secretary and homemaker - who chose to respond with the power of peace in the face of devastating crises. They were each awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their courageous decisions.
We believe that an active, powerful, peaceful response in the face of violence requires a fresh mindset, and is a skill we all can learn. The Nobel Laureates serve as role models and offer insights into this new way of thinking. Journey to Peace reveals how we can make this choice in our own personal lives. We have the endorsement of The Hague Appeal for World Peace and the American Friends Service Committee, as well as all of our Nobel Laureate participants in bringing this information to a worldwide audience.
These are the voices our children need to hear. These are the messages that adults would benefit from believing. And you can help bring these voices to the world with your support of Journey to Peace. We are seeking to build an "executive producer group" of ten to twenty people who I am pleased to discuss the project further with you at your convenience.
Peace and warmest regards,
Valerie Mrak Producer/Director? Journey to Peace
