ISSUE: How To Brand Giving

CONVENER: CharlesMaclean

SUMMARY OF DISCUSSION, KEY POINTS, CONCLUSIONS, ACTIONS:

Opening Space For Giving To Flourish Chicago, Friday, July 09, 2004

"Inspiring Giving As A Way Of Living Worldwide . . . Branding Giving"

Charles Barnard Maclean, PhD PhilanthropyNow - Facilitator

#1 Outcome Branding Sound Bite: "Get The Givers High"

Assumption: Everyone is hard wired to give. Our job is to assist people to discover and claim the giver within themselves.

Key Donor Coaching Task: Assist potential donors to assess what gifts they have to give.

Innovative Recommendations

Create Electronic Giving Info To Action Kiosks In Public Places

Install "Get The Givers High" Opportunities In Eye Catching Places

Provide adjudicated youth with restitution option of spraying "Giving Grafitti" with approved giving quotes in approved places like in front of participating retain stores.

Create ways for families to do one time volunteering as a family and provide them with a print and/or CD/floppy disc format for ìpreserving the memory of giving together with story board, picture album (digital or hard copy) , captions etc. Savvy foundations will provide these "memory caputure tools" to non-profits they fund to distribute to volunteers. Make it easy for the nonprofit to put their identity on the cover and have the foundations name on the back.

Best Leveraging of Giving Practice

Every time a foundation or corporation funds a festival or public event, require that that recipient nonprofit build a "give-away" option into the public admission fee structure.

I wanted to attend this session but was in another at the same time. The Tutor/Mentor? Connection is trying to create a larger number of individuals and organizations who get up every day and look for a way to do something to help tutor/mentor programs in some part of the country help kids who need extra adults in their life. To succeed we must find ways to "brand" the idea, so that it only takes one phrase to communicate what it is, not an entire book. I look forward to talking with Mr. Maclean further about this.
