Corporate Compassion Sprouting Radical Profit

I find myself full of joy today following an evening of making and remaking connections with some of the more remarkable people I know. A few of us put out an invitation to gather and explore together our questions about: CorporateCompassion: Dissolving Differences and Cultivating Mutuality.

About twenty folks took us up on the offer. We gathered in OpenSpace with bodies, ideas, relationships, business issues and human spirit all in play. We remembered that mutuality, the practice of allowing other(s) to be as real to us as we are to ourselves, is the ground out of which compassion, joy and some other essentials naturally (and quickly) arise.

The seeds of at least one next step, another gathering, are sprouting already as RadicalProfit. Have a taste of our evening if you like, or simply sip the joy of the first days of summer, if you can find it, into the details of where you are right now.

  1. (Ashley! fun to see your “hi”!)

The past few days I’ve been noticing a pulsation in my own energy, that I’m interpreting as a tipping and tilting and trying to balance between need & desire for external/other people/interchange stimulation, and internal/just me/quiet non-activity (i’m equally weighted on both sides of the introvert-extravert scale). And noticing that the “opened space” seems either outside or inside at any moment but not both; the inside’s not reflecting the outside and vice versa. Darn! Maybe it’s at that place where I think my inside begins/ends and the outside ends/begins that could use some opening of space…

    love, Christy

  2. hi christy and michael,

i can’t help but smiling in the computer lobby of the boulder library as i read your words here, and feel like i’m popping in to say “hi”.

and then i wander to the joy of expanding our inner practice of opening space from some of the time… to more of the time!

    thanks for the inspiration!

    with love,
    ashley

  3. I am glad you’re back too! i love the description of Radical Profit/Prophet and look forward to learning more about it.

I’m glad you enjoyed my little story–it has been fun to hear and watch students interpreting Open Space and convening opportunities to play with it–nothing to do with any “pure” version of OST, but definitely stirring up movement and action.

  4. it occurs to me now that the “pure” open space might be the stuff that’s inside of each of us. movement and action are good indicators. also fun, and it sounds like you’re having some of that too!

  5. mmhmm, that tipping and tilting from side to side is translated into an energy that moves in naturally coordinated way, forward–that feels true. so, the space continues to expand (the bubble is inspired to grow bigger) to include the big “out there” and the deep “in here” all in one (I guess it’s the perception that’s expanding–the space has always been!)

  6. YES!!!… christy… but no doing required… i think just the pulsing and refining of pulsing across that edge… between an inner/you that is real and an outer/other/world that is also real… and in the pulsation a new space opens automatically, and naturally… a new dimension of sorts…

like riding the bike… not falling left, not falling right… and a flow emerges as a whole new dimension called “forward.”

and ashley!! …you appear from the world without plugs… nice to see you’re not lost… thanks for saying hello. guess you’re pulsing between plugged and unplugged!
